What is the School Street?
The School Street is a City of Vancouver and Vancouver School Board program that makes the block of Comox Street between Bidwell and Cardero a car-free space on school days at morning dropoff and afternoon pickup times.
When did the School Street start?
The School Street began as a pilot project in 2021 and has been successfully operating for 2 years.
Why make the School Street permanent?
The School Street is staffed by volunteers, but the heavy time commitment makes it unsustainable long-term. We want to create a permanent car-free public space on the block.
How can we make the School Street permanent?
The City of Vancouver is opening a process of public consultation, which will include discussion of how the community would like to see the space used.
