There are too many parents to thank here, but it is inspiring to see many of you stepping up to help with pizza lunches, grant writing, events, LunchLab, volunteering for the PAC, and so much more.  

We also want to thank the many parents who have contributed financially to improving the school for all students and teachers. Here are just some of ways your support has made a difference:

• Canopies for outdoor learning (at the school now)
• Bean bag chairs in the Library (a hit!) 
• Water bottle filling station
• Simple but essential things like calculators, whiteboards, clipboards, paintbrushes and field trips 
  

And last year our direct appeal raised a record $15,000 and helped bring Lord Roberts into the 21st century with projectors, speakers, AppleTVs and more modernizing teaching tools in all kindergarten and Grade 1 classes. 

This year our goal is to raise enough from donations to complete the technology upgrades for the rest of the grades. 

Parents, and the community at large, help in so many ways. So give yourself a pat on the back and wave congratulations at a friend during drop off. We have an amazing school and you are a big part of that.

Division Groups and Reps
A Division group (generally communicating in WhatsApp) is an easy way of exchanging information about division events, homework requirements, school events, deadlines and other relevant issues. At least one parent from every division in the school has already signed up to be in a Div group or to lead one!  

Parents who have shared that are still looking to join their division WhatsApp group should complete the contact form at https://forms.gle/iz4vbVTeq5HpVFfh9  Div reps will use this information to add parents/guardians to the chat. 

To be added to a group you will need to complete the form or contact your div rep directly. 

Divisions need a Division Rep to set up the group chat in WhatsApp are:  
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 14, 15, 16, 18

Divisions that have a parent/guardian signed up to be a Division Rep (some have multiple) are: 
8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27

In the next few days, PAC Vice-Chair Lucy Maloney will reach out to Div Reps to share contact information so groups can be set up. Parents/Guardians with questions can reach out to Lucy at vicechair@lordrobertspac.ca.

Dear Madam/Sir,

Extension of Comox Street Separated Bike Lane

I am writing to you to advise that the Lord Roberts Parents Advisory Committee (PAC) supports the petition to the City of Vancouver to extend the Comox Street separated bike lane from Bidwell street to Cardero street. The vast majority of people who have signed the petition are PAC members, including PAC executive members.

Our parent community is aligned that this will reduce traffic dangers posed to our children, decrease pollution, improve drop off and pick up flow, and encourage active transport in the West End. Traffic safety and congestion on Comox Street, and around the school, was a significant issue of concern for parents in the PAC's annual parent survey conducted by the PAC, and has been a topic of concern for many years at our school.

This issue was voted on at the PAC meeting on 20 February 2020 and the motion to support the petition was passed unanimously by all attendees.

The Lord Roberts PAC is asking that participants choose the Ballot Item "The Christine Fretwell and Kathryn Gibbons Memorial Gift to West End Students" as their first choice.

Dedicated to the memory of Christine Fretwell and Kathryn Gibbons, two West End mothers who passed away recently due to illness, this memorial donation will directly support students at at Lord Roberts Elementary and King George Secondary School. With the support of the PACs, the funds ($10,000 each for both Lord Roberts Elementary and King George Secondary) will be distributed using simplified participatory budgeting model to help the youth of the West End more deeply engage and understand the participatorybudgeting process.

Beyond the funds that this brings, it is a wonderful way to celebrate Chris and Kathryn. If you did not have the chance to meet her, Christine Fretwell was a big part of our PAC for many years. Even in her last years of life she was an active part of our school community. This is a truly fitting tribute to her and her contributions to our school.

Please support this initiative by voting online or in person at the school.
