Lord Roberts Detailed Fundraising Wishlist for 2018-2019
Classroom Supplies and Field Trips - $6000
Many teachers requested funds for classroom supplies including books, calculators, min-whiteboards, art supplies, and outdoor education materials to expand the learning opportunities they can provide for their students. Due to increasing bus costs, they also require additional funds to take their kids on field trips to apply their learning.
Edible Education - $4300
Our Edible Education program requires funds for educational compost bins, garden beautification and signage, seeds and to support costs for a portion of the food prep elements of lessons.
Classroom & Library Furniture - $3300
Many teachers requested funds to replace old and dirty area rugs in their classrooms. This category also includes replacing the much-used bean bag chairs in the library and several requests for “rainbow” tables that facilitate teacher interaction with students in lower grades.
Arts, Music, Dance - $7300
Includes music and dance performances for the whole school, theatre field trips, weaving looms and a variety of other art and music supply requests.
This category funds activities such as floorball for the whole school, the Play Ambassadors program and sports equipment such as a new volleyball net.
Support and Resource Teachers and Counselling Suite - $9500
Supporting our students with special needs requires special resources which the school does provide, however, this category will enrich literacy intervention kits for children who are not yet meeting grade expectations at all levels, fund additional books to supplement reading recovery, continue to support the RAZ kids reading program, and provide counselling suite supplies such as books, comfort kit supplies and arts supplies.
Technology - $7500
This category provides funding to purchase inquiry based math and language manipulatives, games and apps. Additionally, it provides funding to purchase technology such as robotics and peripherals to support technology. This category supports applied skills and design and helps our kids bring engineering elements into their learning
PAC Fundraising Infrastructure - $5000
Putting on events is much more difficult when you don’t have adequate tools. This category includes funds for tables, tents, cash boxes, storage bins, movie screen system and a second popcorn machine to help our PAC team put on more events more easily.
Facilities Beautification Art Projects - $15,000
The gym, undercover area and washrooms are all key areas of our school that have been identified as being in need of some love. These funds would help to fund paint, supplies and an “artist in residence” to work with our kids to create some amazing inspirational art in the gym and undercover area. (We are hoping to get partial funding from VSB for for the labour to paint/beautify the washrooms, but would use these funds to cover paint.)
Water Bottle Filling Fountains - $15,000
Drinking water is healthy and we want to ensure our kids have easy access to clean water and water-bottle filling stations in both school buildings and outside. These fountains range from $2000-$5000 for installation and are not covered by the VSB.
Field and Playground Upgrades Contingency Fund - $8,000
We have been in conversations with VSB and the Parks Board around the possibilities of upgrading the Roberts field and playground to benefit both our school and the community. This would be an expensive project requiring hundreds of thousands of dollars, and is likely years off, but we would like to start setting aside a bit of money to contribute towards moving the process forward and funding key feature requests our Roberts families might have. As some of the staff requests may be able to be funded by in kind donations or grants, any unused funds would stay in this category until they are needed.
