LunchLAB is a Growing Chefs program that provides a hands-on approach to edible education in schools while offering accessible, nourishing, and culturally relevant school lunches prepared by students under the mentorship of chefs-in-residence. The program empowers diverse students, including Indigenous students, English Language Learners, and Newcomers to Canada, who often face barriers to accessing food and food literacy. Through LunchLAB, students learn critical food literacy skills, receive ongoing mentorship, and get to enjoy a nourishing, delicious lunch.

LunchLAB's edible education program provides ample opportunities for kids to develop teamwork, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and innovation skills through hands-on food preparation. It also provides consistent access to healthy school lunches, which is particularly important for children who otherwise would have limited access. Consistent access to healthy school lunches is an important opportunity equalizer--it enables students to nourish themselves properly, especially those living with food access limitations, which can translate into improved academic performance and attendance.
